Hydrogen Convergence Provides GEW with New Direction

For many of the young people involved in Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), the Internet was their parent’s technology revolution. For the rest, it was their older brothers and sisters who say the Internet boom and bust on their watch. Hydrogen Convergence is the first global technology movement that this generation can participate.

GEW is the perfect place to introduce Hydrogen Convergence because it provides a platform for understanding entrepreneurship not just financial education. Some in the GEW community seem satisfied with teaching the basics how money works. Hydrogen Convergence, on the other hand, provides this set of young entrepreneurs with an opportunity to see a new technology from inception to commercialization.

The global financial markets have not had any real direction since the end of the Dotcom boom. This past decade they have been moving from one fad to another without any break through technologies to drive them. A case could be made that this lack of direction was a catalyst to the sub-prime mortgage problems. Real engineering was replaced by financial engineering and/or corporate malfeasance as the ultimate goal.

It’s one thing to read about the Internet, to use a cell phone, and to spend hours on twitter. However, it is completely different to design hydrogen refueling stations and work with local coops to produce and to market hydrogen related products. Hydrogen Convergence provides the ideal lab for Global Entrepreneurship Week because it makes every community an energy producer.
