Now Is the Time to Change Course on Innovation
Last night was historic for the United States of America. The Democratic Party took control of the United States House of Representatives and shifted the balance of power in the Senate. This ended the marginalization of tens of millions of people in the US. No longer can one party set the American Innovation Agenda. The Dems in Congress have now been given a mandate to change direction and enact innovative programs that engage the majority of US citizens.
The old agenda was predicated on the belief that America’s future rested in the hands of a relatively small number of people in the scientific community. The outgoing Congress has pushed policy initiatives that ignored the economic value of entrepreneurs. The lawmakers returned to Cold War Era thinking by putting the military establishment in charge of innovation. After last night, the Dems in Congress are now obligated to change course on innovation and engage the entire electorate. This nation is depending on them.
